It does, yes. Back home, they'd feed on the resentful energy that collected there, but the pool itself has properties that keep a corpse from deteriorating further. If this one functions anything like that, then yes, that's why Wen Ning's keeping them in there. I couldn't sense any resentful energy from the one they were actually in, at least.

...I'd guess it means that for some reason, we still need those bodies. Not necessarily to return to, but in some cases a spirit needs something tangible on the "other side" to cross back over, you know? Or it's possible that the spirit wouldn't be able to exist without a body to be tied to, even on the other side.
... guess it works out that he was one of the ones who got put in charge here, then, huh? Someone who knows what they're doin'. I'd say that's a pretty lucky coincidence, but... well. Ya know. All of this is pretty much the complete opposite of lucky.

I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing, though - to think he was put here on purpose. If he was, then it's possible it was only done to give us a false sense of hope.
